I set keyboard delay and repeat to fastest (250ms & 50/s), opened Kate and vi, pressed space for 
10 seconds and looked at the column counter. However, I've retried the test and now I've 
measured ~50/s in Kate (488 chars in 10 secs +10 for the initial 250ms delay) and ~37/s in vi 
(360 + 10). 
 
I recall doing my first measurements for 5 secs sample period. I guess I must have divided vi 
measurement to 10, instead of 5. Anyway, it's still 37 < 50 in vi. :)
