I have my artswrapper +s and is run with the following settings: 
/usr/bin/artsd -F 10 -S 4096 -a alsa -d -b 16 -m artsmessage -c drkonqi -l 3 -f 
 
After leaving my desktop running overnight, without any active use even I wake up to arts using some 200-400MB of RAM.
