Ubuntu (kubuntu) | kdelibs-bin

Summary: kded dies when laptop is suspended
           Product: Ubuntu
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: i386
        OS/Version: other
            Status: NEW
          Keywords: kubuntu
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P2
         Component: kdelibs-bin
        AssignedTo: debzilla at ubuntu.com
        ReportedBy: lgrover at zoominternet.net
         QAContact: kubuntu-bugs at lists.ubuntu.com

When I suspend my laptop, the kded process exits. As a result, when I resume,
the battery status panel indicator is gone and I lose the on-screen pop-up menus
for suspend, display brightness, and volume (which are activated by the fn-F1,
fn-F2, fn-F3, fn-F4, fn-F5 key combinations) are also gone. If I manually run
"kded" and then "klaptop_check" after resuming from suspend, then I get the
battery status indicator and pop-up windows back.

This problem is 100% repeatable on my system: an Apple iBook (G3, 800 MHz). It
is running an up-to-date hoary install, over which I installed kubuntu-desktop.

Running strace -p <pid of kded> revealed the following when I suspended:

ioctl(7, FIONREAD or FIONREAD, [1]) = 0
ioctl(7, FIONREAD or FIONREAD, [1]) = 0
