Yes, I can.  I just made another CD coaster :-(

1. I had no processor-intensive tasks running.  No specific user
applications; not even Firefox and Thunderbird.  I only had KDE, the
KDE panel, and two consoles running. I can send a PNG of what I got with
"top" just before I invoked CD.  [BTW, how do I attach PNGs to this bug
site?]

2. The CD writer had its maximum write speed of 48X enabled.

3. The CD was a 48X Verbatim super azo DataLifePlus CD-R.

4. AFAIK, both writer and Cd were capable of 48X writing; K3b mode for
write speed was "auto".

5. I was copying 488 MBytes of data when the process slowed down after
51 MBytes.

6. The speed shown during the write process was about 20X to 21X.

7. After a while, the CD was ejected with a failure.
