Ubuntu | libgphoto2

Summary: please include libgphoto2 2.1.6 in the next release of
                    Kubuntu
           Product: Ubuntu
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: i386
        OS/Version: other
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P2
         Component: libgphoto2
        AssignedTo: debzilla at ubuntu.com
        ReportedBy: svloon at xs4all.nl
         QAContact: kubuntu-bugs at lists.ubuntu.com

Currently, my Canon Powershot A510 digital camera doesn't work very well in Kubuntu. For example, in KDE it's
detected as a "USB PTP Class camera" and not by it's real name, and I can't choose it from the list of camera's
either, because (I assume) the current version of libgphoto2 used in Kubuntu is 2.1.5 which does not have
support for the A510. Though it's not supported in 2.1.5 it is detected as PTP Class cam (whatever that may be)
and I can get it to work. However, it doesn't work very well. Sometimes digiKam can transfer the images from my
A510, sometimes it can't. If it doesn't work, I have to delete the cam and then autodetect it again in order to
get it to work again. Sometimes digiKam refuses to delete some images from the cam, so I have to do that
manually.

I noticed that libgphoto2 version 2.1.6, released on 23 June, introduced support for the A510 -
http://www.gphoto.org/news/ - so I tried to compile it myself. However, after succesfully compiling the A510
still didn't show up in the list of camera's which can be added in KDE. Someone told me I had to recompile some
KDE stuff as well in order to get it to show up in that list, but at this point I have no clue on how to do
this. My A510 is still barely useable.

That's why I hope that libgphoto 2.1.6 will be included in the next Kubuntu release. So, can it please be
included? Of course I realise that the developers might already intend to include the most recent versions of
software, but I'm asking this just be sure.
