Summary: kubuntu dapper flight 2 i386 install cd - isolinux
                    doesn't work on Targa Traveller 826 (amd64)
           Product: Ubuntu
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: i386
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P2
         Component: UNKNOWN

Kubuntu Dapper Flight 2 install-CD for i386:
The ISOLINUX bootloader to boot the CD is broken, I have the following symptoms:

1.) I get a "debug" window overlapping the cd boot loader screen with tables for
"pstk" and "rstk"
2.) After the cd boot screen appears, I need to press keys several (3 or 4)
times before the gui reacts to key presses. It then reacts to every key press,
though
3.) Using the F2 key to changes the language (e.g. to German) freezes the system
directly after the language has been selected. I checked the CDs contents and
German seems to be installed for isolinux.
4.) Using the F4 key to select another screen resolution doesn't change a thing.
5.) Booting any kernel fails, no matter what boot option (e.g. Expert or Server
mode) I select. The error message is that the kernel could not be found. All
tries to boot a kernel off the cd have failed. I have checked the "Extra
Options" (F3 key) but they are the same as for the amd64 cd. It seems the kernel
image cannot be found, however a vmlinuz files seems to be present on the CD.

Effectively, I cannot boot from that CD. I have checked MD5SUMs and even
verified the written image, checksums match. The CDs contents is perfeclty
readable from other OSes on this and on other computers. However, I haven't
tried booting from it on other computers yet.

The system I tried this on is a Targa Traveller 826 laptop, powered by a Mobile
Athlon 64 CPU. The amd64 installer cd works. So does the kubuntu breezy final
i386 installer DVD.

This bug is somewhat critical, as that computer comes with a WiFi card that has
to be run with ndiswrapper. However, no amd64 drivers are available (at least
officially) and therefore WiFi cannot be used with an amd64 installation.
Similiar issues may apply for the ATI Mobility Radeon X700 graphics, though that
is not critical because x.org has drivers available and one doesn't have to use
the fgrlx ones.

Regards,
Dominik
