           Summary: boot splash breaks fglrx
           Product: Ubuntu
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: i386
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P2
         Component: usplash
        AssignedTo: mjg59 at codon.org.uk
        ReportedBy: bj.haykel at wanadoo.tn
         QAContact: kubuntu-bugs at lists.ubuntu.com

I was having problems with the fglrx driver. I had 3D acceleration from the
start on and the installation was also simple, but every time I leaved my X
session (swith to console with Ctrl-Alt-Fx, log out of KDE or even Kill X with
Ctrl-Alt-Backspace), I was having a black screen. The only thing I could do was
to reboot with Ctrl-Alt-Del (that was still possible). After a week searching
and testing and with MUCH luck, I figured out that disabling the boot splash
(removing "splash" from the kernel options in the grub menu) solved the problem.
Now I don't have the nice splash screen anymore when booting, but I can log
in/out, switch to/from VTs and look at the messages when my system is shutting
down ;)

I think this a bug in usplash, but it can be somewhere else (kernel?).
