These are separate issues:

- The "Starting Ubuntu..." message on the live CD, which is printed by casper
- The "Starting Ubuntu..." message on the installed system, which is part of the
initrd sequence
- The labels for the various kernels in grub

This bug is about the first item.

We already have such a facility (/etc/lsb_release via /bin/lsb_release);
however, for technical reasons this file must currently be the same in both
Ubuntu and Kubuntu.  This will change in the future.
