No it doesn't help. It doesn't help particularly since this would leave me
without 3D acceleration. In this regard, this would very much make things worse.
However removing both of these (enterprise volume management and lvm) services
from etc/init.d does work. Which appears to indicated that either one, or both
of these services are faulty. I don't really see how the fglrx package could be
connected, unless you are attempting to say it isn't your software that's at
fault and you can't be expected to account for kernel interactions with
propriatory software?

That isn't very helpful. I had the fglrx package installed for a month without
difficulty. I have used these drivers in every linux distro I have tried in
these last 3 years (about 20) and they have never given me a problem.

As I said search on the forum, I am not the only one to have experienced this.

There isn't much more I can do. I find a bug, I report it. That's it.

It is kind of pointless however if after doing so the developers are simply
going to imply that it is my hardware, or some unrelated package that is at fault.

There is nothing wrong with my hardware. There is nothing wrong with the fglrx
drivers. If I remove both these services from the default run level, the boot
process continues normaly. Conclusion: Either one or both of these services is
malfunctioning.
