The trouble is I am aware of this - but the only packages I have from Debian
unstable are those relating to Mplayer and a few other multimedia based
applications. I am aware of the difficulties of running a mixed environment -
and I have done my utmost in every possible sense to avoid this.

However as an ordinary user I cannot live without mutimedia applications.

Due to the lack of inclusion of any real multimedia functionality in
kabuntu/ubuntu I like many am therefore forced to seek that functionality from
elsewhere.

The repositories I chose are well known (and well trusted) among the Debian
community - and to most Ubuntu/Kubuntu users. I like many have added the
following to my sources.list:

deb ftp://ftp.nerim.net/debian-marillat/ stable main 
deb ftp://ftp.nerim.net/debian-marillat/ testing main 
deb ftp://ftp.nerim.net/debian-marillat/ unstable main 

While I understand the legal difficulties of including multi media functionality
in Kubuntu/Ubuntu I think it is a fundamental mistake to set out to break that
functionality completely.

Currently users only have two choices. Run with a pure Kabuntu/Ubuntu install
that simply looks good, but doesn't do very much. Or run a mixed environment
that will eventually break compatability with Kabuntu/Ubuntu AND the official
debian unstable source tree. It seems rather nonsensical and really very
frustrating to be faced with such a seemingly contradictory choice.

As I said, while I understand the legal difficulties that you feel you face -
it seems sensible that at least some compatability should be maintained
between the Kabuntu and Debian unstable source tree - particularly with those
packages relating to mutli media. (Indeed including the above repositories in an
official
release may not be a bad thing - even if they were initially commented out).

I think this very much does therefore qualify as a bug and as such I am
resubmitting it as 'broken multimedia compatability.'
