I've got the same problem both juk and amarok. I guess it's a problem just with mp3 files.  
I tried to use trm (libtunepimp-bin package) with a mp3 file, and it says:   
Error: .mp3 is not a supported filetype.  
  
More, trm without any argoument says:  
usage: trm [-i|-l] <audio file>  
Options:  
  -i   Print out track metadata along with trm id  
  -l   Lookup file at MusicBrainz  
  
BROWSER environment variable to specify your browser of choice.  
Check http://www.catb.org/~esr/BROWSER/index.html for details.  
  
Supported file extensions: .wav .ogg .flac  
                           ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ 
 
I think that's the problem. I tried to retrieve ogg tag info using juk and it works!!
