Generally I would say that we should only add the new test based on its
merit, and not simply to eliminate the need for a trivial backport.

However it's a moot point here. Currently "artful" refers to a kernel
based on 4.11 and "unstable" to a kernel based on 4.12. It looks like
the failure you're trying to fix is in unstable, but you've targeted the
fix at artful.

Unstable already has the new test because it was introduced in 4.12.
Only patch 2 is needed, so I'm just going to cherry pick that into
unstable.
