Hi, there,

wondering where to post this information.

I have a USB stick connected to front USB (motherboard socket) that
pushes the following message to syslog every second:

reset high-speed USB device number 2 using ehci-pci

kernel: [------.------] usb 2-3: reset high-speed USB device number 2
using ehci-pci

It's about every second. The device works fine and never gives troubles.

Device is:

Bus 002 Device 003: ID 0951:1665 Kingston Technology Digital
DataTraveler SE9 64GB

It's not actually 64GB, it's 32GB. It is USB 2.0 on 2.0 port.

It also fills up dmesg so there is nothing in it except for those lines.

lspci gives:

00:11.0 SATA controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI]
SB7x0/SB8x0/SB9x0 SATA Controller [AHCI mode]
00:12.0 USB controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI]
SB7x0/SB8x0/SB9x0 USB OHCI0 Controller
00:12.1 USB controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] SB7x0 USB
OHCI1 Controller
00:12.2 USB controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI]
SB7x0/SB8x0/SB9x0 USB EHCI Controller
00:13.0 USB controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI]
SB7x0/SB8x0/SB9x0 USB OHCI0 Controller
00:13.1 USB controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] SB7x0 USB
OHCI1 Controller
00:13.2 USB controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI]
SB7x0/SB8x0/SB9x0 USB EHCI Controller
00:14.5 USB controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI]
SB7x0/SB8x0/SB9x0 USB OHCI2 Controller

I take it that's gonna be 12.2 or 13.2 for this one.

A search indicates it is on 13.2. When I go to its location, I find a
file named:

avoid_reset_quirk

When I put 1 into this file, the logging stops:

echo 1 | sudo tee avoid_reset_quirk

So that fixes this issue for me temporarily. I could do this on boot,
but the device might not be connected yet.

Is there anything I can do here? Should this flag be 1 by default?

/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:13.2/usb2/2-3

Attached is the contents of the text files in that directory.

Regards.
