As the working 3.13-rc8 mainline kernel (below) is built in theory at least
using the same config I would be initially suspicious of the firmware.
We have a tendancy to pull firmware out of our Ubuntu kernels when they
match what is in the latest linux-firmware.  This later version of the
firmware packe would not yet be in a precise base.  If this was the case
you would expect the issue to be visible in dmesg, so you might want to
start there.

You ought to be able to file bugs against the package now it is in our
PPA and that might be helpful to track the resolution of this.
