NACK. This patch is fairly intrusive, and introduces changes applying to
older GPU hardware that we can't adequately test.

It applies to Quantal.

It would require backporting to Precise, since the modified code is in a
different file.

It does not apply to Lucid at all, since the target code does not exist
in that kernel.

If this comes back as an upstream stable patch or if it's proven to fix
a specific bug report, I might reconsider it.

For completeness, the patch is attached.
