This patch has been found to cause GPU hangs in Sandy Bridge GPU hardware.

Testing on Quantal shows that reverting it resolves the issue. 

Testing in Precise has been requested, but the same GPU hangs have been observed in precise, and it is assumed that this revert will also resolve them.
