Basically, if the brightness adjustment is handled by the HW and there is no
ACPI or input event generated, then how should it generate OSD notifications?
I do not think a user can do much about that, than to accept that there is no
OSD feedback. Maybe there are way, but to find anything will require deep
knowledge about the system and HW.

All systems that automatically load the thinkpad-acpi module (which is basically
all ThinkPads but maybe a few Lenovo branded laptops, too).
