DualPoint TouchPad at isa0060/serio1/input0 lost sync

and a few others describe a problem where the mouse pointer stops
working in X intermittently when using a touchpad. In my case I can
still move the mouse but can't click on anything and have to restart
to recover.  There is a patch linked from
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12577 which supposedly
works. It would be great if this could be applied at least to a test
kernel.
