SMS1xxx driver updates

We spoke about merging some updates to the sms1xxx module in irc on
Wednesday.  Since it hasn't been uploaded yet, everybody was OK with this.

Please pull the following four changesets from my git tree.  The hosting
of the sms1xxx firmware itself will be dealt with Canonical, separately.

This closes bug #243430 in linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24
