Kernel Mode-Setting

>From a good trawl about on the web I think the concensus is that the
main support for Kernel Mode-Settings is going to targetting the 2.6.29
merge window.  The first bit of foundations appears to have or be
planned to hit the 2.6.28 release; GMM the memory management layer seems
to be in.

According to Fedora they will have some real support in fc10:

The patches seem to be out there for review but not small.  Cirtainly
not trivial backport territory.

It should also be noted, that to get any sort of benefits from the KMS
you need to have updated x server binaries for all supported platforms
and likely to have switched from usplash to Plymouth.  So totally a big
transition.
