Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.20-6-generic

In few cases (3 of 10 tries) my laptop cannot GO to sleep, and become
unusable, Only Alt+SysRq+B helps. Once it could, there is no problem
with resuming. I think it's not an Ubuntu-specific bug, since it also
don't works always with a kernel configured-by-me with slackware, but
you might help me.

The computer is a Clevo M550N Laptop, Intel i495, ICH7, GMA950. (Intel
3945ABG - But ipw3945 module is backlisted, it causes soft lockup during
boot - https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-
source-2.6.17/+bug/63418)

However, not everything else about suspend works fine.
Since edgy - either the Fn-F4 combination or the powermanager-applet could send the computer to sleep.
Since feisty herd3 - after pressing Fn-F4 takes about 15 seconds the suspending, but it works - sometimes.

I have to make some corrections in /etc/default/acpi-support, 'cause with the defaults it didn't come back. These are:
SAVE_VBE_STATE = false
POST_VIDEO = true
USE_DPMS = false

*EXPERIENCE*: In the case when it don't go sleep, just switch off the display, I can hear the CD-ROM drive something moving inside - this noise sounds like before the boot process starts, during the POST, when the drive is being recognized by the computer - That's why at the first such case I thought that I rebooted the machine instead of suspending.

I will also attach outputs of some important commands, like lspci,
dmidecode or whatever you want.
