Same here for ipw2100 (all Ubuntu packages apparently) uname -a:
Linux blade 2.6.10-4-686 #1 Fri Feb 25 05:28:14 UTC 2005 i686 GNU/Linux

I updated from 2.6.10-3 to -4 ... firmwares resides in /lib/hotplug/firmware and
/usr/lib/hotplug/firmware is empty. I added links from /lib/hotplug/firmware
/usr/lib/hotplug/firmware - that did'nt work. I also created a link
ipw2100-1.3.fw (thats what the driver seems to search for) - no success. 

btw. shouldn't the firmware be independent from processor and architecture, so
why are there fw-images for every processor/architecture combination?
