thanks for caring,
as far as i remember, i had the same problem with or without the settings (apm=off 
noapic nolapic pci=noacpi). after installing of ubuntu the USB was not working and 
also after this settings.
someone else told me to use them in the boot, but frankly speaking, i am not truly 
sure, if i need them (they are related to the power management, what i know).
the only thing in this regard is, that the battery charge level is always on 0% 
and i once thought this would start to work.
nowadays in the boot are included:
/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.8.1-5-386 root=/dev/hda2 noinotify pci=noacpi ro vga=771 quiet 
splash
