[Bug 643705] [NEW] extremely slow ubuntu 10.04 slow disk check at boot time

Hi,
The symptom is that at boot time the disk check finishes 70% within one or two minutes.   From 70% to 74%, it takes about 5 minutes.   From 75% to 100%, it takes a few hours with worst case so far being 15 hours.     The "mountall" version installed is 2.15.2

Other pertinent info is as follows:

*  the file system format is ext3

*   cat /etc/lsb-release
        DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
        DISTRIB_RELEASE=10.04
        DISTRIB_CODENAME=lucid
        DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS"

*   uname -a
        Linux ubuntu 2.6.32-24-generic #43-Ubuntu SMP Thu Sep 16 14:17:33 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux
