I can confirm that when I close the lid, the computer goes into
suspension mode. When I open the lid I can see that the computer comes
back to life, but nothing happens on the screen

It has sort of been on/off.

I am running 
Output of uname -a
2.6.32-22-generic #36-Ubuntu SMP Thu Jun 3 19:31:57 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I have to run 32-22-kernel because otherwise the screen flicker like a
madman!
