Public bug reported:

Per the discussion in today's release meeting, the following bug fixes
listed below are being proposed to warrant the Kernel Freeze Exception.
We've listed them in order of priority (highest to lowest priority).

As a quick summary, there are 6 proposed bug fixes. We feel the first
three bugs are critical for the release and hence the reason for the
freeze exception. The first is a regression on a common touchpad which
results in it being inoperable. The second and third are graphics issues
which prevent the boot/use of the LiveCD/images. The last three are not
as high priority bug fixes but worth including at this time since we are
re-uploading.

Given the current Maverick release time constraints, I'd like to get
this uploaded asap. This means I'd like to upload a new kernel by my
EOD today. This would then ensure we've got kernels built and ready in
the archive by Monday for everyone (if not sooner depending on queue for
the buildd's).

Release Team, please let me know if this proposal sounds reasonable to
you and that the following suggested bug fixes are appropriate for
inclusion.

Thanks,
Leann

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/641320 - "Touchpad is not working
since last kernel update in maverick"
 * We suspect the patch to resolve Bug 632884 introduced this
regression. The proposal is to revert this patch for now and
re-investigate a proper fix that can be applied as a post release SRU.
Serge Hallyn (hallyn) and David Mandalla (davidm) can confirm a test
kernel reverting the patch restores his touchpad back to working order.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/546393 - "MacBook Pro 5,1 / 5,2 /
5,3 / 5,5 fails to boot into 10.04 desktop"
 * The fix is to forward port some SAUCE patches we were carrying in
Lucid. This allows the MacBook Pro's to boot the Maverick LiveCD's.
Brad Crittenden (bac) has confirmed these patches fix the issue in
Maverick.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/630885 - "Preinstalled Maverick
netbook image has no display on omap3 EVM (no LCD)"
 * The fix is again a quirk patch to enable the display on an omap3 EVM
rev. D board. Reporter has confirmed the fix. ogra noted it would be
nice to have this in Maverick's final release if possible.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/624701 - "BUG: unable to handle
kernel NULL pointer dereference at (null)"
 * The fix is to apply a patch to LIRC which checks for a Null pointer
before attempting to dereference it. Patch has been tested and
confirmed by the bug reporter. It's also making it's way upstream.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/640254 - "[Dell Inspiron M101z]
Internal speakers does not function in Ubuntu after booting into Win7
once"
 * The fix is a simple quirk patch to enable the speakers. The patch
has been accepted into the upstream maintainers tree and should be
landing in Linus' tree relatively soon. It's also been submitted to
upstream stable.

http://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/639758 - "AppArmor fails to load policy
with newer network rules"
 * This is a follow on patch to the original fix to resolve kernel
buffer overflows that were introduced.
