I've recently upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04 from Karmic Koala.

 The version of Udev I'm running is 151-12. (I'm not entirely sure udev
is the correct package but after reading
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage, it seams like the most
likely candidate.)

When using Karmic Koala whenever I plugged in my 512MB ipod shuffle
ubuntu readily detected and mounted it and I was able to easily use it
with Rhythmbox, transferring music to and from the ipod.  I could also
easily transfer files to and from the ipod using nautilus.

After upgrading to 10.04 this no longer happens.  The ipod never gets
mounted.  I can see it when I run Disk Utility, which identifies it as
an Apple Ipod, but has no options to mount it.  All my other usb storage
devices work flawlessly on 10.04.

I know of several others who are experiencing the same problem as I
first posted to the forums (see
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=9272323#post9272323 ) looking
for help, but almost all replies I received were other people
experiencing the same problem.
