[Bug 637712] [NEW] Acer Aspire 5553G fails to resume after suspend

Public bug reported:

When going to suspend the laptop successfully goes into standby (LED's
turn off, blinking "suspend" light same as in Windows, fans turn
off...). However when trying to wake laptop up HD LED momentarily
flashes and goes off, power light turns on, fans start up but screen is
blank.

Hibernate also does not work.

Acer Aspire 5553G, 2 days old, stock Ubuntu install 10.04 64bit, several
fixes from the ubuntu forums attempted with zero success (nomodeset,
resume=/dev/sdaX in /etc/default/grub, visual effects on/off,
proprietary and OS video card drivers)

No previous releases installed so cannot say if they worked.
