I think I have the answer to this problem. The therm_pm72 module is not
being loaded on your system. Therm_pm72 is the code that controls the
fans in the G5, and there are no aliases to allow udev to automatically
load this driver.

For now, adding therm_pm72 to /etc/modules should be fine, but I need to
find a longer term solution to this bug.
