I'm having the same problem.

After applying the latest patches: Display of laptop stays black. Laptop
can be used via docking station and external display, but 'Monitor:
Sieko Epson Corporation 15" ' stays black.

Seems that the problem is in Package: linux-image-2.6.32-24-generic. 
Workaround: By removing this and using the previous image on package: linux-image-2.6.32-23-generic.

Has this something to do with bug:  #600453 ?

But I think that this title:

Applying  linux-image-2.6.32-24-generic package to Ubuntu Lucid (10.04)
causes the Dell E6510 screen to be black.

Is more descriptive for this bug at the moment.
