FWIW, I tested this with the following results, with builds from the
Ubuntu Kernel PPA

2.6.32.21 - hard lockup on Fn+Home 
2.6.34.6 - hard lockup on Fn+Home 
2.6.35.4 - backlight works 
2.6.36.999 (daily from Aug 30) - backlight works

Does anyone know what changesets might be responsible for getting this
to work in .35?
