In my Acer 4730z, the rt2800pci modules causes the wifi to never connect
to any AP.
Here is the relevant lspci -vv output:

Kernel driver in use: rt2860
Kernel modules: rt2860sta, rt2800pci
There is a pretty simple workaround:
Create a file named: /etc/modprobe.d/rt2800pci-disable.conf
And set the contents to:
blacklist rt2800pci
Hopefully, this will help other affected users until a real fix for this
issue is provided.
