I just upgraded my June 2009 MacBook Pro from Karmic to Lucid.

The keyboard backlight control now finally works (as it used to for a
while when I first installed... Jaunty I guess—maybe it's the choice of
drivers). But I can't turn it off. What I can do is dim the keyboard's
internal lighting until it's almost completely gone. If I press the dim
button once more after that, it goes back to full-on again.

I would guess that the driver may be confusing "manually disabled" with
"automatically disabled because the keyboard isn't being used."

** Affects: linux (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: Incomplete
