Same problem here, since 9.10 IIRC, and I also saw it on a laptop
recently, both currently running 10.10.  Turning off ACPI in the BIOS
helps, but just makes it take more time for the problem to appear.
rmmod usbhid; modprobe usbhid also helps. but even after doing that, you
have to right-click to get a context menu in order to free up the mouse,
and then it still won't work for long.  Sometimes the keyboard flakes
out as well.  Usually, when this starts, the mouse keeps partially
working, e.g., the mouse moves and even can select, but mouse clicks (as
in clicking on a button) are ignored.  Tried running off the 10.10 Live
CD.  This was better, but eventually (after hours, rather than minutes)
the mouse started reacting in the same crazy way.  This is really making
it hard to use Linux as a main platform.  Haven't tried other distros,
but this may not be unique to Ubuntu.
