Public bug reported:

Since a clean install of Ubuntu 10.10, Hibernate has worked apparently
the same as shut down. I had other inconsistent problems with Hibernate
in previous releases, but this is the worst. All the applications re-
open same as in a restart; nothing is preserved. I'm running a Lenovo
Thinkpad R61i. Details below.

$ uname -a
Linux Stonau 2.6.35-22-generic #35-Ubuntu SMP Sat Oct 16 20:36:48 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux

I got this error with lspci:

$ sudo lspci -vnvn > lspci-vnvn.log
pcilib: sysfs_read_vpd: read failed: Connection timed out
