Public bug reported:

There is a bug in the radeon driver in the Lucid release which causes my
system - Dell Inspiron 600m - to hang after suspend. It will go into a
suspend state fine but it will not come back up when I press the power
key. The system does seem to rev up but the screen stays black and I
have to do a hard restart and reboot.

This but was not an issue in the 2.6.28 version of linux. For those
kernels, suspend (including closing and opening the laptop lid) worked
as expected.

I have found a workaround in the 2.6.32 kernel. I have recompiled my
kernel from the source in git and edited the configuration so that
modsetting on radeon is not enabled by default:

    Device Drivers -->
        Graphics support -->
            Direct Rendering Manager -->
                <M> ATI Radeon
                  [ ] Enable modsetting on radeon by default - New Driver

In the generic config "Enable modsetting on radeon by default - New
Driver" is selected.

Compiling and installing a kernel with this change will fix the suspend
issue (though the graphics are degraded some).
