Hi, I own creative live! cam notebook and when I access the camera(video recording) first before using its microphone it works well. So I made a simple script to access the camera as soon as it's inserted.  The script isn't camera dependent, so you can try it even if you don't own the creative one...

Btw I'm using lucid, so I don't know if this problem still persists in maverick - please let me know if you want me to package the script also for maverick.
