I tried the 2.6.36 mainline build as suggested, and it seems to be non-existent in that Kernel. 
  I could not test virtual box, as it did not have the virtual box drivers
  I could not fully test it with network access, the w1 driver was not installed, and I did not have time to use my wired connection
  the firefox issue seems to be an issue with firefox, ( I tested it with some HTML files on my drive) 

The wierd thing is that it happens randomly, and does not have to be
under high load when it freezes, so I can not test a particular action
