I tried a later kernel because of another bug and when I connected my
laptop to my TV with a HDMI cable there was both sound and video.

Installed the 2.6.36-020636rc8-generic kernel, found here:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.36-rc8-maverick/
