I have the same problem. And I don't understand why such a serious issue
not respected by the Ubuntu Team.

I ran into this problem in Ubuntu 10.04 and the problem still there in
Ubuntu 10.10. The problem leads to terrible touchpad performance  on a
laptop , for example, synclient does not work to avoid improper
behaviors of touchpad during typing, and the alps multi-touch advantage
disappear, etc.

I really hope the Ubuntu Development Team should stop focusing on the meaningless trifles like changing the color
of wallpapers, inventing fuzzy-headed ways of exhibiting ugly startup images, and make effort to solve the real problems that bother their customers.
