I'm fairly sure it's not a BIOS issue.

I'd like to do some proper investigation, but it's proving difficult
without affected hardware. I have been searching the code for clues and
placing on lots of further debug. Hopefully, there should be a kernel
(debug only) for you to test tomorrow.

In the mean time, can you place this on your kernel command line and
tell me if the problem still occurs?
