After IRC conversation with Bill (
https://irclogs.canonical.com/2010/10/14/%23oem.html#t10:49 ), here's an
updated summary of the tasks for this bug (should it be split ?):
Always:
- Remove the "Import from f-spot" option (and any other similar option for other foreign databases)
- Always perform a startup import of the library directory.
- It should automatically create links.
- It should display normal progress display but no final report popup.
- Add a new "Removable Disks" page to display USB mass storage devices (see moblin media player from omsk (hornsey package) for an example).
- Keep ~/Pictures as default library directory, and don't allow the user to see or modify the setting in the UI
- Keep an eye open to see if anything may get written there even with the import options turned off (see RO case below).
If ~/Pictures is RO:
- Disable any import feature except the startup import (see above)
If ~/Pictures is RW:
- Allow import features, including import with copy.
