[Bug 659681] [NEW] Suspend/Resume doesn't work after upgrade to 10.10

Public bug reported:

I just upgraded to Ubuntu 10.10 from 10.04. Among many other things that
it broke, the most annoying one was suspend/resume. The laptop (Sony
VIAO VGN-SR53GF) doesn't resume from suspend. The disk LED does
constantly light, but nothing comes back on screen. It used to work
perfectly prior to the upgrade. I have to do a hard boot to bring the
system up.

Other things that broke were:
1. VMWare Player 3.1 stopped working (it was not able to re-compile the necessary components as needed due to kernel upgrade)
2. Texlive broke.
