Ok, went through the Wiki guide about installing stripped kernels. It
was very easy, I thought I would have to go to kernel.org and roll my
own kernel, which is a bit out of my scope I am afraid, but it appears
Ubuntu now offers ready to use deb's ! :-D
Many kenrels to choose from, was a bit lost so I picked the latest
Maverick kernel:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/daily/2010-10-12-maverick/
It does boot, but X failed to start.. the nvidia driver didn't like the
kernel change I guess ! So I uninstalled it, which reverted me back to
the 'nouveau' driver. Now X does start, but TV apps don't appear to like
nouveau ! They either refuse to start (xdtv) or freeze once launched
(XawTV). Here is what xdtv dumps in the terminal whikle attemting in
vain to start :
vincent at vincent-MS-7395:~$ xdtv
This is xdtv 2.4.0 running on Linux/i686 (2.6.36-999-generic).

I looked again at the kernel log, but didn't spot any difference with previous logs...
Could you maybe help me to compile the "old"/previous version the bttv
module, and instal it in Ubuntu 10.10, to see if that solves the problem
?
