I wish this had worked as well for me as it did for you, I am running
ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat (upgraded from Lucid) 64bit on a geforce
9600gt with 4gb of RAM and a 2ghz core2duo processor on a nforce
motherboard.  I seem to remember having some issues with plymouth on
Lucid at first but soon got them sorted.

Since the upgrade I only get the text based theme in plymouth and the
above fix didn't work for me, does anyone else have any suggestions for
me to try? Seems sad as my old ati 9600 pro card on my HTPC has had no
problems at all since the upgrade (though that is on a 32bit system).
