For me it is only working with the older firmware that can be found here: http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/people/chr/carl9170/fw/1.8.8.1/carl9170-1.fw
The newer firmware failed uploading to the device. I also got problems with the draft-n modes and PSK TKIP encryption, with AES it seems to work.
