[Bug 659083] [NEW] dell studio 1555 fails to update properly to Maverick

Public bug reported:

I updated my 10.04 to the new 10.10 this afternoon using software
manager.

It completed the install, rebooted the system as per normal.

I don't get a splash screen (I didn't before either, but I don't get one
now)

My screen loads to the purple screen but that's it - I don't get a login
prompt, I don't get anything at all.

All I can do is hard-boot (turn it off and on again) and get the same
result.
