I have a very similar problem on a Lenovo  U150.  There is an odd twist.
If the machine is on AC power for the first suspend, suspend/resume work
fine until the machine is powered off.  Normally I get similar hang with
the fan speed cranking up on hibernate as well.  Hibernating on AC power
works fine (or after a suspend on AC power).   Waking from hibernation
requires AC power to not fail.
