Sorry I missed you yesterday on IRC.

When you say that the kernels failed, in what way?

I've just issued lshw on my DVD-RW and I receive the same output.

If you can find some time on a week day (perhaps take your machine to
work?), I can help you with your bisect using Ubuntu kernels. Did you
find any kernels that still worked?
