I frequently change the monitor configuration of my laptop using xrandr:
I often plug and unplug external monitors of various resolutions.

Quite often, after reconfiguring the monitors, some windows and applets
(like stickynotes) end up outside the screen area. For windows, a
workaround is to maximize them using the context menu on the taskbar
icon, and then drag them with the mouse to a correct position. For
sticky notes, the only solution is to manually edit the configuration
file and kill stickynotes_applet.
